Despite taking up a lot of storage and resources, Facebook’s apps have been downloaded countless times and Facebook released Messenger Lite in October of last year. The lightweight app requires less data and resources than its counterparts. Facebook initially launched the app in emerging markets, then later expanded it globally.
So the good news for the company is that Facebook Messenger now can claim over 100 million installs. Good job Facebook.
Facebook eventually released the app in the United States and the United Kingdom a few months back too. It had reached the 50 million installs milestone in August of this year. It has since been released in all major markets, so it’s not surprising to see that the app’s install base has doubled in only four months. We are talking 100 million app installs.
Keep in mind that apps that come pre-loaded on phones count towards this number even if they’re never used. Even so this is an impressive figure. And this figure does not show the number of times that the app may have been installed from other sources. Who knows what kinds of numbers the app will eventually hit, but I’m sure it will go much higher before it is done.
