Well, it is the time of year for giving. Facebook is in the giving spirit. Recently Facebook revealed a couple of new “Share” and “Like” buttons to us and here is yet another button. One that should appeal to those with a giving nature.
The latest button, a “Donate Now” button, was introduced by Facebook. The idea behind this one is to make life a whole lot easier for non-profit organizations to get contributions. It is unclear if businesses would also be able to implement this button on their pages, but here is how it works.
Push the button and it will collect credit card numbers as well as other billing information for Facebook. This will of course help Facebooks e-commerce and gaming initiatives. To start there will be 19 non-profit launch partners which will use the new “Donate Now” button at the top of their Facebook Pages as well as at the bottom of their News Feed posts. These partners include DonorsChoose.org, Boys And Girls Club Of America, World Wildlife Fund, UNICEF, Red Cross, and Kiva. Now comes a long testing period before Facebook takes the next step of opening this up to other non-profit organizations. What do you think? Good idea?
