Sesame Street producers know that kids these days are spending way too much time glued to their devices. On YouTube it has more than two million subscribers, and it recently launched Sesame Studios to test new ideas. They want to try some new ideas on kids and see what works.
However, the regular Street channel is still going strong. In fact, it’s about to devote the next six months to making Elmo a big YouTube star. The Sesame Workshop is launching the “Love to Learn” campaign that’ll have the channel providing a series of themed videos between July and December. All with Elmo as the star.
Each month it will focus on a different topic, from Animals and Music and Cooking and Kindness. Producers are partnering with other YouTube stars, so this means that Elmo will appear in clips with them, like how Sesame street often has a star appear on the show.
You might remember that Sesame Workshop is suffering from a funding crisis. In 2009, it began operating at a significant loss. But recently HBO has stepped in to help, which has given the Workshop time to develop new projects online and do other things to get back on top.
