Driveclub is a game that has struggled and so Sony is ready to end this troubled saga. Sony has announced that the servers for Driveclub, Driveclub VR and Driveclub Bikes will be shut down just before midnight British time (about 7PM Eastern) on March 31st, 2020.
Sony will stop selling games and add-on content on August 31st, 2019. No worries though. The single-player components will still work, however Driveclub is a social game so you probably won’t want to play it anyway.
The server shutdown will prevent gamers from competing in multiplayer races, including events and tours. You also won’t get to compete against others on the leader boards or share your progress. Like I said, you probably won’t want to play without all of this. Your season pass won’t work online, either.
This was a long time coming. Sony closed Evolution Studios back in 2016, with Codemasters picking up the developer weeks later. With the creators gone, there wasn’t much reason to keep the racing game alive. Driveclub sold 2 million copies as of July 2015, but delays and glitches hurt the game. This is sad news for those fans that have been enjoying the game. They will have to find another game to pass the time.
