Walmart’s latest bid to go up against the likes of Amazon is delivering groceries via DoorDash. Except instead of this being a Walmart offering, it’s really being led by DoorDash. Users like you and me won’t notice a difference, however.
Just log on to the Walmart website and you can place an order, choose delivery and then your food will show up at your door thanks to DoorDash. The pilot program is live in Atlanta right now, but there’s no word on if or when there will be an expansion. Time will tell.
In March, Walmart announced that it would begin delivering groceries to 100 new cities this year, which would be up from the six it serviced at the time. Ever since then, it has announced partnerships with Postmates, and now, DoorDash, to make it a reality. Fans of Walmart should enjoy getting food delivered to their door once things expand.
Why DoorDash though? Well, the service’s drivers are usually busy later at night, so this would give them something to do during their non-peak hours. Also, the extra data would then help DoorDash become more efficient and it would help open the door to delivering more than just food. So that’s what they have to gain.
