Disney Plus has not yet launched. The service is expected to go live in the middle of this month. It looks like it is already off to a great start. According to data from Jumpshot, the upcoming streaming service is said to have acquired over 1 million subscribers already.
This is based on data in the US, which means that when Disney Plus opens to international markets, those numbers will be higher. This is an extremely promising start if it is accurate, especially given that Disney is new to the streaming game and there is plenty of competition in the market space.
However, like most streaming services, Disney Plus comes with a 7-day free trial, so it is unclear based on those million subscribers, how many of them just signed up to take advantage of the free trial, and how many actually pre-purchased their subscription in advance. Time will tell and sort it all out.
Plus, these aren’t the official figures so they should be taken with a grain of salt for the moment. But if they are accurate, then this is definitely good news for Disney as long as they can provide good content on the platform. We will see.
