Rumor on the street is that Disney may be considering acquiring Netflix, which follows reports that Disney was allegedly looking into buying Twitter too. The rumor itself was enough to push Netflix’s stock over $100/share. Clearly a lot of folks think that would be a swell idea.
Keep in mind that this also follows several months of light rumors that Apple may one day buy Netflix. Anyone else want to step up, before we continue? Is anyone else interested? No? Okay, let’s continue on then.
Talk of a possible Disney acquisition of Netflix has been circulating for the past several days now, but neither company has commented on the rumors. They likely will not. When this deal, if it were to become a reality, would happen, we don’t know. Netflix has been struggling to grow for a bit, and then there’s the slow transition to the higher $9.99/month subscription rate. That’s why the share price had been down until the recent rumors.
Whether Disney will ultimately acquire either company, we have no idea, but the move would make sense. Netflix could be a great home for Disney’s mass of highly sought content. Plus, Disney owns everything else it seems, so why not?
