The selfie stick is one of those inventions that is truly obnoxious. Apparently they are a big hit with people who go to Disney’s parks. And now Disney is doing something about it. The selfie stick is a stick with a contraption at the end that holds your smartphone safely in place. This allows you to snap a selfie of a large group, but it can also can get in the way of people who are standing nearby.
Thes sticks have been banned at museums in New York and in U.K. football arenas as well. It really is a pretty horrid human invention.
Disney executives were worried that the selfie sticks pose a threat to both those using them and to innocent bystanders. In fact, Disney cast members have been instructed by Disney via a company memo, to ask guests with a selfie stick if they could stow them away before entering a ride or attraction. Those using the stick while on a ride or in the middle of an attraction will be embarrassed by an announcement over the PA system to put away the selfie stick until the show or ride comes to an end. They have really become a problem for the Mouse-House.
Selfie sticks are still ok to use in other parts of the park. They want your money after all. In fact, despite all of this, selfie sticks made with the images of Disney characters are available for purchase.
