If you were too young to enjoy the original Diablo when it was new or just want to play it again for the nostalgia, you’ll like this. Game developer Rivsoft has made the classic action RPG available to play in a web browser using rebuilt source code. It even has atmospheric music.
Just be aware that this version preserves all the “bugs and badly written code,” which is part of the charm. You will be hacking and slashing your way through dungeons like it was 1996 all over again and having a ton of fun.
The game is playable for free, but you’re limited to the demo version with one character class, and only have a fraction of the levels and virtually none of the conversations with Tristram’s residents. But if you have a copy of the full game, you can load the main data file and play all the way through to the climactic battle with Diablo himself. If it has been a while since you’ve played the game, this is going to be a lot of fun. besides, it will be fun to see how much the genre has evolved in 13 years, by going back and playing this game.
