A few weeks back, developer Keybol was ready to push out its new game Kill the Plumber to both the App Store and the Play Store. The game is a kind of reverse-platformer with puzzle elements. It spoofs the famous Mario character and puts the player in the role of the bad guys. Which sounds pretty damn cool I think.
Your goal is to kill the jumping plumber while avoiding being jumped on by him. Apple had a problem with how much the game resembled Mario and completely banned it from the App Store. Even though the game is clearly parody, with all of its elements being exclusively made by the developers, Apple didn’t want to take risks with Nintendo.
So what can you do but change the concept, the way it looks and the gameplay mechanics? That’s what the developer is doing right now. Thy are redoing all the aesthetics – “from blocks, to the plumber, to new screenshots, and icon”. The developers are even working on a comic that is going to “explain the change in a humorous way, and not bringing bad light to any party”. It sounds like a good gameplan.
Hopefully, this will be enough to give the game a green light on the App Store. I guess we will see.
