The Detective Pikachu movie will be arriving soon and while many were a little upset about the idea of a live-action Pokemon movie, the trailers have impressed fans. It’s no wonder, with Ryan Reynolds’ sense of humor. This should be a hit. It looks like Detective Pikachu could be the start of something huge. It certainly looks fun.
Speaking to IGN, the movie’s producer Ali Mendes seemed like he was open to creating a Pokemon Cinematic Universe, similar to Marvel and DC.
Mendes says, “[Pokemon is] such a rich universe. There are so many ways you can go inside of it. We’re trying to get the first movie right, and then once we’ve done that, we’ll see where we go from there, but absolutely. There are a lot of opportunities.” It’s not a confirmation, but they are obviously looking to the future.
Disney/Marvel has proven that its MCU has staying power at the box office, making billions of dollars. The Pokemon franchise is already popular and ripe for more stories. They have tons of characters, so it is a no-brainer. Detective Pikachu’s sequel has already been greenlit so the future could be very bright for this new unusual Pokemon series.
