Activision spent a staggering $500 million on Bungie’s Destiny. They must have been pretty confident that the game was going to succeed and be a smash hit. Looks like they were right. Early reports said Destiny’s revenue was around the $500 million mark on the first day. Now we have some more info.
During Activision Blizzard’s earnings call, the company’s CEO Eric Hirshberg revealed more details about the game. Like the fact that Destiny currently has 9.5 million registered players. While we don’t know how many of those 9.5 million registered users are actually actively playing the game, we bet it is most of them. It is an impressive figure. For comparison, Blizzard’s World of Warcraft currently has around 7.4 million.
It was also revealed that the developers of Destiny are already working on a sequel. No big surprise there. It is a money maker. “Work has also begun on future expansion packs as well as on our next full game release. We’re very pleased with the launch and continuing engagement.” It will be a long wait for the sequel since the game is not even half a year old, but we are happy to hear it. We can’t wait to see where this all goes from here.
