Bandai Namco has already confirmed that it will release two DLCs for Dark Souls 3. The first is Ashes of Ariandel which will be released next month. Fans of the franchise have been wondering about it’s future ever since the press release from the original announcement back at E3 2015 described Dark Souls 3 as “the final episode.”
Well, it has been confirmed. Developer From Software’s president has said that the DLCs are going to end the Dark Souls franchise. At least for the moment.
From Software president Hidetaka Miyazaki said that the upcoming DLCs for Dark Souls 3 are going to mark an end to the franchise for now. The company believes that it needs to move on to other things. Miyazaki points out that this absolutely does not mean that a new Dark Souls title may never be developed. Just not right now.
“As president of From Software, I’m not completely denying the possibility of bringing back the franchise in the future. There could be someone else in my company who wants to work on new installments. But we believe that the series will end after the two DLC,” he said.
Miyazaki says that From Software would like to carry over some of the good things from the Dark Souls franchise to its new products, “we would like to take what we learned from Dark Souls and use it in future IP,” he added. Personally I can’t wait to see what they do next.
