Yes you read that title correctly. It seems absurd, but Play.com thinks that Nintendo’s console could dominate Christmas sales this year. That is hard to believe after the console launched so poorly. Especially when newer consoles like the Xbox One and PS4 have surpassed the console’s lifetime sales in less than a month since their launch.
In fact, I’m calling this claim crazy. Some think the Wii U’s problem is a lack of blockbuster titles. Well, Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. are expected to arrive in 2014. That must be why Play.com expects the Wii U to have some kind of revival. Sadly, it isn’t enough. The console is underwhelming on all levels and Nintendo as a company has lacked any kind of vision for awhile now. It won’t happen.
Their claims are based on a Twitter analysis which found that the Wii U and the iPad are among the more talked about presents for children this Christmas holiday. We will have to wait and see, but I just don’t see Nintendo beating PS4 and Xbox One. You can’t just keep repackaging Mario games that have no soul. You actually have to make games awesome so we want to play.
