Cortana is Microsoft’s virtual private assistant exclusive to the Windows Phone platform, although the rumor is that Cortana will be coming to Windows 9 soon as well. In the past, the company has said that Cortana will be updated twice a month, so they are certainly serious about improving the feature set. That is good news if Microsoft Cortana is to compete with Siri.
The latest feature is a good one. Cortana now has the ability to define words.
To use this new feature, just fire up Cortana and ask it to “Define” and say the word out loud. This should help you increase your knowledge of the language and Cortana is only too glad to help. It will search online and give you the relevant definition. Cortana is pretty quick getting the results and you don’t even need to launch a separate app or access Google or any other search engine. Right now the feature hasn’t gone live across all markets yet.
For instance, in the UK, some have said that they can’t get Cortana to define a word. Rapid upgrades should have Cortana more on par with Apple’s Siri. It seems like it is on the right path with this feature.
