Cortana has been making her way around the world for the last few days, being quite the jetsetter. Microsoft’s leading lady was allegedly seen on German and Italian Windows Phone 8.1 handsets on Saturday, and now we are hearing that the virtual personal assistant has shown up in Spain. There, hackers who were able to get Cortana on their handsets received transit reminders in their native language.
Even though screenshots showing Cortana in Spanish have been seen, the original source of the story (which is windowsphoneapps.es) said that they were unable to replicate it and confirm the situation. It seems most likely that the images are related to Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2, which is expected to bring the Alpha version of Cortana to more countries soon.
Coratana may not be as popular as Siri, but it is still very useful. Recently there was a researcher who used a random question generator to ask Cortana questions, along with Siri and Google Now. What is interesting is that Google Now offered useful information for a third of the questions asked. Siri came in second with a meaningful response 25.8% of the time. Cortana finished third with her answers providing insight on just 11.7% of the questions asked. That’s not too bad and I am sure it will catch up.
