Just like major manufacturers update their flagship devices every year, parts makers do the same. All of the parts get updates, whether it is the processors, displays, even the glass that covers the display. It looks like CES will once again be where Corning is planning to show off their latest version of Gorilla Glass. It’s time for Gorilla Glass 3.
This year, the plan with Gorilla Glass 3 is to offer more toughness. They are doing just that. Corning is claiming that Gorilla Glass 3 will be three times more scratch resistant, and offer a 40% reduction in the number of visible scratches, and a 50% boost in retained strength after the glass becomes flawed.
That’s pretty impressive, but keep in mind that none of those improvements will really help impact resistance, so it won’t count much for drops. Still, it is good news.
