When the guys from ChevronWP7 first developed their jailbreak for Windows Phone 7 devices, Microsoft contacted them and decided to enter discussion with them about releasing an official jailbreak solution for Windows Phone 7.
The tool was soon pulled and we have been waiting to here the outcome of the discussions with Microsoft for a while now. The ChevronWP7 team are releasing an approved Windows Phone unlocking tool.
The Chevron WP7 team will be charging Windows Phone 7 owners a small fee to unlock their WP7 device, we don’t know how much this is yet but doubt it will be expensive, this will allow users to download homebrew applications to their smartphones.
Microsoft have been pretty smart about this, and have obviously learnt from watching Apple play a cat and mouse game with the jailbreakers for the iPhone, and have worked out that people will jailbreak devices anyway.
