We’ve been hearing rumors that Netflix and Chelsea Handler would “revolutionize the talk show” for a long time now. It looks like they intend to make good on that promise now.
On May 11th, the streaming service’s first show to feature that format will make its debut. This is something truly different for the streaming format.
Each episode will be 30 minutes long and stream three times a week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. They will be commercial-free of course. I guess they are looking to compete with TV talk shows and this seems to be a good formula for doing just that. We still don’t know the title of the show yet, but that’s expected to be announced this week.
This news comes soon after Handler already debuted the four-episode comedic documentary series Chelsea Does on Netflix in January and will they will stream a stand-up special from her as well. Do standard talk shows have anything to fear? Probably yes, because I’m sure this is just the beginning and Chelsea Handler is just the first. It will be interesting to see what happens here. Given Netflix’s track record, I’m sure it will be a stand out success. We will see.
