Casio has launched the STB-1000, a new sports watch with Bluetooth 4.0 LE support. The watch tracks data like your pulse, elapsed time, running speed and distance. If you are a cyclist, it will monitor speed and pedal rotations as well. Other basic functions include daily alarms and countdown timers. The watch is also water-resistant to a depth of 100m, and has a nice long two-year battery life.
With Bluetooth compatibility you can control media playback on your iPhone, receive calls and email notifications, and share fitness data with friends using iPhone apps. Right now it is still early days, there are only a handful of apps supported. Apps like Wahoo Fitness and Abvio’s Runmeter, Walkmeter, and Cyclemeter. Casio says that it will extend the number of compatible apps in the future, so there will be more.
Since the watch uses Bluetooth 4.0 LE, only more recent iPhones like the 4S, 5, 5s, and 5c can access fitness data. No info on pricing for the watch yet, but when we hear we will pass the info along to you. Fitness fans who use an iPhone will certainly love the Casio STB-1000 and find a lot of use for it.
