Researchers at the University of Massachusetts–Amherst have discovered a bug. One that could result in you having data bills that are higher than normal. This particular bug was discovered in the Samsung Galaxy S3’s stock Internet browser.
The bug downloads many more images than necessary when it loads a page, and obviously page load times are increased when this happens too. Is Samsung working behind the scenes with mobile service providers so that they can make more money? I doubt it. It is just a bug. But it makes you think.
Emmanuel Cecchet, Robert Sims, Xin He, and Prashant Shenoy discovered the bug, when they were halfway through testing a Quality of Experience (QoE) benchmark application. They will present their discovery later this week at the IEEE Symposium in Montreal.
