Too bad that all broken phones don’t sell for this much money. Pop star Rihanna was attending an NBA Playoff game between the Clippers and the Thunder last week in L.A., when the person in the seat next to her asked if she would mind taking a selfie with him. Well, Rihanna dropped the phone.
It was the person sitting next to Rihanna whose phone got broken and he was L.A. Police Commission President Steve Soboroff. This law enforcement official decided to make the best out of a bad situation by having Rihanna sign the back of the phone. Why not? As it turns out, this was pretty smart. Soboroff then did what anyone would do. He auctioned the phone on eBay.
The phone works, but it has a cracked screen. It sold for an amazing $66,500. Soboroff didn’t even keep the money for himself. He donated the entire amount to the LAPD Cadet program, and Rihanna even added an additional $25,000 of her own money. So basically, this was a real score for the LAPD. Best thing to ever come out of a broken phone.
