Last week Blizzard announced the latest World of Warcraft expansion named Legion. It seems like it was only recently that the previous expansion was announced. Well, Blizzard moves fast. So fast that Blizzard apparently has the next expansion already planned.
This news was revealed by World of Warcraft’s lead designer Tom Chilton in an interview at GameSpot during Gamescom 2015. Chilton says, “It is crazy that we’re this far along.” He went on to reveal that, “We do have more expansion packs planned already.” Their fans will be thrilled that they are on the ball.
Of course, Chilton did not give many details away. They want people to be surprised after all. One can’t help but wonder if this sudden rush to create expansions has anything to do with the World of Warcraft subscriber numbers which have been falling rapidly.
Recently the official numbers were revealed, with the subscriber base sitting at around 5.6 million, which is an all time low in the past few years. The game lost 1.5 million players in the course of 3 months, so maybe they intend to hang onto their current subscribers with more expansions. I guess we will see what happens. Hopefully they are quality and not too rushed.
