It seems like it has been forever since RIM had any good news, but they should be happy about this. According to Trend Micro’s latest report on mobile operating system security, BlackBerry 7 is the most secure of the big four OSes. That should make them feel all warm and fuzzy.
Trend looked at several security-related features, like authentication, application security, data protection, and manageability. RIM scored big for BlackBerry’s “corporate-grade security and manageability.” They provided all the tools an features to let administrators roll out the most secure phones possible. Thus BlackBerry OS 7 was deemed the best choice for “stringent mobile roles.”
On the other hand, iOS didn’t far so well, losing points because third-party tools are required to fully secure and manage iPhones. Android was penalized for lax software ecosystem controls and OS update delays, which put it in fourth place. Windows Phone came in third. Who would have thought that RIM would place so high and the others so low?
