As race fans know, the BBC lost Formula 1 coverage years ago because of budget limits, but it’s making up for that now big time. BBC has reached a deal to air every race of Formula E’s 2018-2019 season in the UK, starting with the December 15th race in Saudi Arabia.
This means that it will be very easy to follow the electric racing league if you live in the country. This is also a win for exposure. The fact that it will be available on a free-to-air TV network could introduce Formula E to people who otherwise wouldn’t know it exists. That generates many more fans for the sport which is awesome.
It seems like a good time for the BBC to jump into this too. The initial Formula E revolved around nearly identical cars that had to swap out mid-race, but successive seasons have become far more varied. The differences will be more pronounced than ever for this season. There are more powerful, more distinctive cars that don’t require swapping, while the likes of Nissan are joining in for the first time as well. This should be an exciting season for EV racing. You can catch it all on the BBC.
