After the controversy surrounding EA’s Star Wars: Battlefront 2, the company might be treading lightly when it comes to including loot boxes in their other games. In fact, it looks like the recently announced Battlefield V will not be featuring loot boxes at all, so players won’t have to worry about spending more than they should.
This comes from a report from Kotaku where an EA rep confirmed by email that the game will not have loot boxes. Before this, there were rumors that there would be loot boxes in the game, but they would only be used for cosmetic purposes so they wouldn’t affect gameplay in any way.
Based on this new report, it looks like a decision has been made and there will not be any loot boxes in the game at all. The use of loot boxes, paid DLCs, season passes, etc have been a popular method for developers and publishers to earn extra money these days, so for EA and DICE to do away with that model is very telling. Fans don’t want to spend the extra money.
We will see whether or not it will be successful. Battlefield V is currently set for a release on the 19th of October, 2018. It’s good news for fans anyway.
