You could argue whether or not anyone still cares about Avatar, but James Cameron has spent years hyping up his Avatar sequels regardless. The first sequel was originally due this December, but that never happened. People are wondering if it will happen at all.
Well, now his team is ready to commit to specific release dates, not just for one, but for all the new movies.
The production team has now revealed that Avatar 2 should arrive on December 18th, 2020, while the rest are staggered throughout the next few years. The third movie will arrive on December 17th, 2021. After that there will be a 3-year gap between that and the fourth movie, which hits on December 20th, 2024. The fifth will appear on December 19th, 2025. That is 16 years after the first movie. We’ll see how this all plays out.
Take these dates with a grain of salt for now. They have been pushed back in the past, as plans have changed quite a bit. So it would not be surprising if the schedule shifts due to further creative changes or problems. It does look like Cameron is getting the ball rolling after years of prep, now that some dates have been announced.I guess we will see what happens in time.
