I’m not sure what Atari is thinking with their latest announcement, but the company is debuting a new line of wearables. The first product in the “Atari Connected Life” line is called the Speakerhat, powered by Audiowear.
The Speakerhat is exactly what it sounds like: a hat with embedded high quality speakers. Even though we have seen this before and it isnt all that groundbreaking. It is a hat with speakers in the bill of the cap and a microphone that uses Bluetooth to connect to devices.
We don’t know if users can swap the tech into a different SpeakerHat, but the components look pretty integrated. Sure, that hat will last a long time what with how people sweat and all. What was Atari thinking? I remember when they were a groundbreaking video game company. But now? A hat with speakers?
Atari promises “a fundamentally new social audio experience” with Multiplayer Mode, which allows multiple users to listen to a single audio stream via Bluetooth. But how is this different from just gathering around a speaker to listen to an audio stream? This is truly bizarre. Maybe I’m missing something or maybe Atari has lost it. What do you think?
