DC’s movies haven’t so far pulled in the kind of numbers that we have seen with Marvel movies but there have been a few exceptions like Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, which has been DC’s highest grossing movie ever, making $1.085 billion. That milestone has now been passed by Aquaman.
Another major weekend worldwide has pushed Aquaman to become the biggest DC comic movie ever. It was already in the second spot on the list of highest grossing DC comic movies, but now it has surpassed it with a worldwide total of $1.09 billion, beating The Dark Knight Rises.
The performance of DC’s comic movies still pales in comparison to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Aquaman might be at the top of DC charts right now but it’s really the seventh top-grossing comic book movie of all time. The top six spots are all Marvel movies. Avengers: Infinity War is number 1, followed by the first Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Aquaman still has not beaten The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises for the domestic box office with its $316 million though. Compare that to another Marvel movie, Black Panther is in the lead there with $700 million. Great news for DC, however.
