DC’s movies have not had a good track record lately. Some have proven to be huge hits, while others were serious flops. Suicide Squad and Justice League were savaged by critics, but other movies like Wonder Woman were very well-received, and while Aquaman’s reviews were mixed, it has become the highest-grossing DC movie of all time.
This is why it is no surprise that a sequel for the movie has now been greenlit, and according to a report from EW, we have a date for the sequel. Aquaman 2 will be released on the 16th of December, 2022 roughly four years after its debut in 2018.
Jason Momoa will be returning as Aquaman but we don’t know if the movie’s director, James Wan, will also be making a return. The movie is expected to be written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who was the co-writer on the first movie. The film has managed to gross $1.1 billion worldwide.
DC actually has several movies planned for the future, and the confirmation of Aquaman 2’s release date makes it the eighth DC film to have been confirmed. All of these have release dates from 2019 up to 2022. Maybe DC is on the right track now. We hope it is.
