Apple launched Passbook with iOS 6, the service lets you store tickets and make payments with compatible apps, and now it looks like Apple may be getting ready to roll out passbook payments in its retail stores.
According to TUAW, who have received some information from an Apple Store source, Apple has just finished replacing it in store EasyPay enabled iPod Touches to allow the rear camera to be used, this will be used to scan Passbook cards.
It looks like the service will be limited to pre-paid gift cards at first, so basically you would load your gift card onto your passbook app and you could then make a purchased in an Apple Store.
Apple obviously has plans to expand the service in the future, and could offer some sort of payment system through Passbook that would let you pay for more expensive items, although there are no details on this as yet.
