For Apple customers who live in Singapore, the United Kingdom, and Hong Kong, Apple has announced that they will be recalling their AC power adapters. It looks like this is over concerns that in rare cases, the AC power adapters might break and expose some of the components inside, which when touched, could cause an electric shock to the user. Obviously, that is not good.
So far Apple claims to know about six incidents worldwide and so it is recalling the adapters. These adapters were made between 2003 and 2010 and were shipped with a variety of Mac and iOS devices, so if you do have an AC adapter that looks anything like the one pictured above, you should head over to Apple’s website for more details. And stop using it.
According to Apple, “Affected three-prong wall plug adapters are white, with no letters in the inside slot where it attaches to an Apple power adapter. New adapters are white with gray on the inside portion that attaches to the power adapter.” Apple says that this does not affect USB power adapters, so if you have that you are fine and have nothing to worry about.
The countries affected mention Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United Kingdom, but Malaysia was not part of the list despite sharing similar power outlets, so that is worth noting.
