Friday Apple announced a new program that allows millions of iPhone users in 37 different countries to swap out their iPhone chargers, which may be faulty. Apple’s website says that the company has determined that one of its iPhone charger models could potentially overheat and that of course poses a safety risk.
The company says overheating only occurs in rare cases, but I guess they figure that playing it safe is the best way to go. Especially since it affects so many users in so many countries. If users really started having problems in huge numbers, things would get very bad for Apple very fast. So they are offering users the opportunity to swap affected chargers for newer, safer models.
You might be happy to know that chargers that ship with newer iPhone models are not affected by this issue. You guy should be okay. Apple says that it is only model A1300 chargers that shipped with the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S that pose a potential safety risk. So if you have one of those you may want to head over to Apple’s site and get more info. It is better to be safe than sorry after all.
