We have some very good news for Anthem fans. You won’t have to pay cash money to play the Anthem demo before the game’s February 22nd release. BioWare and EA have recently announced that the sneak peek on February 1st through February 3rd is actually an open demo that will be available to anyone on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
If you’ve pre-ordered the game or are a subscriber to Origin Access, you’ll just get to play earlier thanks to a “VIP” demo that will run between January 25th and January 27th. You’ll also get an in-game item to brag about your early adopter status. That sounds pretty sweet if you qualify. Otherwise, you will be playing a few days later.
This is different from Destiny’s public alpha and beta releases, which were pretty much about ironing out pre-launch bugs as well as letting players have fun. But it serves a similar purpose since it effectively acclimates gamers to a shared-world shooter. Of course, BioWare needs a robust and healthy player base if Anthem is going to fulfill its promise of a social gaming experience and become a phenomenon.
So they have to attract as many players as possible, especially those who’d otherwise never have considered playing in the game.
