We knew that a new Angry Birds game was coming. We even saw a teaser that showed that the game would have a medieval theme, but we didn’t know anything else. Now, we’re learning exactly what Angry Birds Epic will be.
The game will be a turn-based strategy RPG, said to be heavily focused on narrative. It will also feature a “challenging endgame”, though we don’t yet know what that means. You can upgrade your characters, weapons, armor, and potions as you progress through the game, like any RPG. Resources will be found in the game and there will be a crafting system for upgrading your gear, as well as in-app purchases to upgrade it faster. The Red Bird will be the warrior class, and the Yellow Bird will be a Mage, but the other birds are a mystery for now.
Angry Birds Epic will be free-to-play, but you can expect a lot of in-app purchase options. Rovio has been taking that route lately. Rovio is planning a “soft launch” of Epic in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, which means it needs to test out the in-app store before the full launch. What do you think? Ready for an Angry Birds RPG?
