Amazon’s online video streaming service is a serious player in the field, with a massive library of licensed content as well as a growing catalog of great original TV shows and movies.
However, Apple TV owners have been unable to stream content from Amazon Video since no official app is available. But now, if a new report is to be believed, the official Amazon Video app for Apple TV might come this summer. Good news for Apple TV owners.
Re/code reports that Amazon and Apple have come to an agreement that would put Amazon’s video streaming app on the Apple’s set-top box. It looks like the app will be released for Apple TV in the third quarter of this year. I know that users have been waiting for something like this.
The only way users could stream content from Amazon Video to Apple TV previously was through AirPlay, by connecting another Apple device like a Mac or iPhone and then beaming content from that device over Wi-Fi to the TV. Not ideal obviously. Both companies have rival video businesses so this is an interesting turn. It’s going to be a win-win for users no matter what. It is about time.
