Amazon doesn’t make the viewership numbers for its Prime Video content public so it’s hard to know the popularity of the content. However, Reuters has gotten their hands on some internal documents which reveal that over 26 million people in the United States watch content on Amazon Prime Video.
The top TV shows brought in more than five million people worldwide to its subscription-based Prime shopping service in early 2017. The documents suggest that Amazon’s investments in original content are paying off.
The documents also show that the audience size in the United States for all video content on Prime is around 26 million. This includes films and TV shows licensed from other companies. Amazon continues to pour more money into its content and hopefully, it will continue to pay off. It’s will spend $5 billion on original and licensed content every year. They hope this will bring in more customers. This strategy was explained by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos at a technology conference a few years ago when he said, “When we win a Golden Globe, it helps us sell more shoes.” That very true.
Amazon has not officially commented on the figures in this report, but you can bet they are happy about it.
