Amazon’s checkout-free convenience store is now headed to Chicago. This is the fourth Amazon Go location, and the first outside of Seattle. The Chicago store opens on September 17th and is located on 113 S Franklin St. We can expect the store to open at 7am and close at 8PM, Monday through Friday. It will be closed on the weekend sadly. That’s okay because it will be back on Mondays.
You might remember that the first Go store opened on January 22nd, but since then the speed of the rollout has increased, with stores opening in August and September. Given the speed at which the company is rolling them out, it shouldn’t be long before the outlets come to San Francisco and New York. Speculation is that we’ll see six Amazon Go stores by the end of 2018 at this pace.
It certainly looks like the walk-in-and-grab model is going to become more common very soon. Others are cashing in on this craze too. Standard Cognition has opened a cashierless store in San Francisco, and Bingobox is doing it in China. Who will be next? It will be interesting to see who does it next and where. And how many stores open up and stay open.
