In reaction to Barnes and Noble reducing the price of their Nook HD tablet earlier this week, Amazon has now followed suit and reduced the price of their Kindle Fire HD tablet to stay in competition.
Amazon has now dropped their 7 inch Kindle Fire HD tablet down to £139, offering UK residents a saving of £20 for the 16 GB version.
In the US, Amazon has reduced the price of the same 7 inch Kindle Fire HD tablet to $169, saving US residents $30 on the previous price. In comparison, the Barnes & Noble 7 inch Nook HD tablet is priced at £129 and $149 for the 16GB model.
Competitive Pricing Strategies
The reduction in price by Amazon is a strategic move to maintain its competitive edge in the tablet market. By lowering the cost of the Kindle Fire HD, Amazon aims to attract more customers who might be swayed by the affordability of the Nook HD. This price war between Amazon and Barnes & Noble highlights the intense competition in the tablet market, where companies are constantly vying for consumer attention and market share.
Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD offers a range of features that make it a compelling choice for consumers. With a 1280×800 resolution display, dual-band Wi-Fi, and access to Amazon’s vast ecosystem of apps, books, and media, the Kindle Fire HD is designed to provide a comprehensive multimedia experience. The device also includes Dolby Audio and dual-driver stereo speakers, enhancing the overall entertainment value.
Impact on Consumers
For consumers, these price reductions are a significant benefit. Lower prices make high-quality tablets more accessible to a broader audience, allowing more people to enjoy the benefits of modern technology. Students, for example, can use these tablets for educational purposes, accessing e-books, online courses, and educational apps. Families can use them for entertainment, streaming movies, playing games, and reading.
Moreover, the competition between Amazon and Barnes & Noble drives innovation. As each company strives to outdo the other, they are likely to introduce new features and improvements to their devices. This continuous innovation cycle ensures that consumers receive better products over time.
In addition to the price drop, Amazon often offers additional incentives to attract buyers. These can include free trials of Amazon Prime, which provides access to a vast library of movies, TV shows, and music, as well as free two-day shipping on eligible items. Such incentives add value to the purchase and make the Kindle Fire HD an even more attractive option.
On the other hand, Barnes & Noble’s Nook HD also has its unique selling points. It features a high-resolution display, a lightweight design, and access to the extensive Nook Store, which offers a wide range of books, magazines, and apps. The Nook HD is particularly appealing to avid readers who want a dedicated device for their reading needs.
