Amazon clearly wants to get a piece of eBay’s pie, at least in India. It just launched a Sell as Individual test service in India (specifically, Bangalore) that wants to help you sell your old goods.
Amazon will list your goods and also pick them up, pack them and deliver them elsewhere in your city. That makes things pretty easy.
The cost depends on what you’re selling. Amazon is asking as little as 10 rupees (just under 15 cents) for every item you sell below 1,000 rupees ($15). It wants 50 rupees (73 cents) for items that cost between 1,000 and 5,000 rupees ($15 to $73), and 100 rupees ($1.47) for anything more expensive than that. Given how easy they make it and how cheap it is, this should be a big hit in India.
Amazon is clearly going after sites like eBay and Craigslist. A small fee will take care of everything, so what’s not to love? We don’t know yet if this will take off, but if it does, we may see Amazon offer this in other countries. This could be a real pain for eBay if it takes off and does well. Time will tell. Amazon seems very confident about this new service,so this will be interesting to watch.
