Amazon may be looking to compete in the online food delivery market in India according to a new report. This report claims that Amazon is making a move into the online food delivery business in the country. The market there is already pretty crowded and if Amazon gets into it as well, things will only heat up more.
Two sources familiar with the development say that Amazon is working with a local partner for this service and has even started hiring staff for the new service already. So it looks like Amazon may launch this service very soon.
It apparently wants the service to be up and running ahead of the month-long festive season in India that begins in September. Amazon may want to compete in the online food delivery business in other markets after shutting down its food delivery operations in the United States last month because of strong competition.
There are a lot of competitors in this market already. Uber launched its food delivery service in the country two years ago but hasn’t been able to grow at the same pace as the local market leaders. Interestingly, a local report has even suggested that Amazon may be in talks to acquire Uber Eats. That would be interesting.
