If you are a fan of getting your comics digitally instead of going to the comic book store, then you have likely heard of comiXology. It’s an app that lets you get digital comics easily. The app has titles from Marvel and DC and many other companies. If you love comics you know this app.
ComiXology has announced that it has been acquired by Amazon. CEO of comiXology, David Steinberger says, “ComiXology’s mission is to spread the love of comics and graphic novels in all forms. There is no better home for comiXology than Amazon to see this vision through. Working together, we look to accelerate a new age for comic books and graphic novels.” I think he is right. It is a good match.
We don’t know what Amazon’s plans for comiXology are, but I am sure they see it as very profitable, so it will likely only get better. It is business as usual for comiXology right now, according to Steinberger, “ComiXology will retain its identity as an Amazon subsidiary and we’re not anywhere near done “taking comics further.” We are confident that – with Amazon by our side, who shares our desire for innovation and a relentless focus on customers – we’ve only just begun.“ It will be interesting to see what they do with it over time.
