If you like the idea of cooking dinner without pushing a button, Amazon’s Alexa can now help. Alexa’s smart home skills aren’t just for turning on the lights or locking your door anymore. These days it can do a lot more. In fact, Amazon has added cooking abilities to its Smart Home Skills. No buttons need to be pushed at all.
It will let you control microwaves (and one day soon conventional ovens) with just your voice. Just like how the crew from Star Trek does it. Instead of using buttons, you can simply ask Alexa to “defrost 3lbs of chicken” for instance. This will come in handy if you just hate your microwave’s interface, or just want to cook things at a certain time. Should be handy.
Whirlpool has already created its own Alexa skill for microwaves, and will launch it “soon.” GE Appliances, Kenmore, LG and Samsung have also committed to working on skills for their own ovens and “more appliances.” Soon, Alexa will be a master of your kitchen. And when Amazon becomes the dominant force in the kitchen, it will be much easier to sell you kitchen items. Soon you may never push a button in the kitchen again.
