Alexa, the virtual private assistant that powers Amazon’s Echo, Tap and Echo Dot devices, can do quite a bit these days. It can call you an Uber, control your lights, check your bank account, and more. Well, it just got more useful.
Alexa now supports August Home smart devices. It can lock and unlocking doors in your home on command.
So now locking your doors is easier than ever. Just ask Alexa.
“We’re excited to work with August to expand our smart home capabilities by launching an Alexa skill for Smart Lock, the first-ever Alexa-enabled Smart Lock,” said Charlie Kindel, director for Alexa Smart Home division at Amazon.
August Home makes smart locks that now work with Alexa. It only works with first or second generation locks, and can be enabled from Amazon’s Alexa app. You will need the August Connect Wi-Fi bridge to pair the smart lock to the Wi-Fi. Then you can easily control the locks using voice commands.
Say, “Alexa, lock the door,” and it will relay that to the August Home smart lock which will then lock. August Home smart locks are compatible with Siri as well as they have support for Apple’s HomeKit platform. Alexa just learned a cool new trick.
