Air Force May Buy Thousands Of iPads And Android Tablets

Many airlines are already buying or have bought iPads for pilots to use and now it looks like the Air Force’s Air Mobility Command is doing the same. They will be putting in a request to purchase tablets soon. The idea is to lighten their pilots’ loads. It is speculated that the Air Force might be requesting as many as 18,000 of the devices.

That number is not set in stone. They could start with a small order to determine how many of which devices they actually want. Then again, they may just make one massive order and be done with it. It also wasn’t clear which tablets they are eyeing. It could be for iPads, Playbooks, Galaxy Tabs, Xooms, or even Nooks.

It will likely be the iPad though, since it has already proven itself with thousands of hours in the air and these would be purchased for pilots after all.
