The Xbox One was priced at $499 at launch, which is $100 more than the Sony PlayStation 4. So many gamers who were still on the fence about which platform to choose, chose the PS4. It was cheaper and not everyone wants to buy a kinect in the package either.
Well, Microsoft has since removed the Kinect from the Xbox One bundle and is now selling the console at $399, aligning it with the PS4’s price. Now that it has had a price drop, how is it doing? Well, GameStop recently announced that they have started to see an increased amount of interest in the Xbox One since the price drop. Duh! Simple math people. Good thing Microsoft didn’t wait any longer. I wonder how many sales they lost.
During a post-earnings financial call, GameStop’s president, Tony Bartel, said, “I definitely think we’re already seeing in our stores with our reservation program as well as dialogue with PowerUp Rewards [members that] there’s a stronger demand as a result of the price drop. The good news for us is… we’ll sell a lot more units.”
In April, the PS4 outsold the Xbox One, but this was before the price cut. I wonder how the numbers will move now. Right now it is too early to know what will happen.
