Fans of the TV show Friends have seen these episodes over and over again. Many of you probably wish the show would come back with fresh stories about these characters. What about letting a robot do the job with the scripts?
Scottish cartoonist Andy Pandy has come up with just such a robot. He uses a “recurrent neural network” to generate the new robot written episodes. This network was given scripts from all episodes of Friends in order for the robot to get an idea of the characters, speaking style and plot points, etc.
The results were stunning. And funny too. Some of these scripts were interestingly titled, like “The Incest Plot” with Monica calling out to Ross before both of them were involved in a passionate kiss. Then there is the “Return Of Gary”, where Gary returns to have a conversation with Rachel and Joey, although we don’t know if things will work out between Gary and Phoebe. I guess in this day we really can’t let TV shows rest, no matter how long they have been gone. Even if humans leave it alone, some robot is sure to dredge this stuff up and offer up some new material for your enjoyment.
