I’m sure that Marvel and Disney were not thrilled that their big m0vie recently showed up pirated on TV. According to the Philippine News Agency, a cable company in the country aired Avengers Endgame after it premiered on April 24th. It showed a bad pirated copy of course. The provider now has to deal with angry fans who were accidentally exposed to spoilers, and also with the lawsuit Teatro de Dapitan, a local movie house, plans to file against them.
We don’t know what happened or if Orient Cable’s execs thought they could get away with showing a pirated, possibly torrent-sourced, version of the movie biggest movie. After Teatro de Dapitan went to the police, the company reportedly stopped airing Endgame and replaced it with a pirated copy of an old Filipino superhero movie entitled Captain Barbel. So maybe this is just standard practice for them.
It’s easy to get illegal copies of the latest Hollywood films in the country either using torrents or pirated DVD vendors. But Philippine authorities have been trying to fight against piracy lately. Marvel has not yet announced whether it’s taking action against the cable company. Not a great move though, airing a behemoth of a movie like this illegally.
