Back in 2014, Irrational Games announced that they would be shutting down. So we had no idea what the future might hold for the Bioshock series. However 2K reassured gamers that BioShock is a “permanent franchise”, suggesting that it won’t be going away anytime soon.
Since then we have had a series of remasters and bundles, but we haven’t really seen any new BioShock content. That could change soon. In a report from Kotaku, it seems that one of 2K’s studios could be working on a new BioShock title. Even if this is true, it’s pretty early on in development.
The report focuses on Hangar 13, one of 2K’s studios and also the studio behind Mafia III, but in one point in the article, it mentions how some of Hangar 13’s staff moved to a different studio within 2K “to work on an unannounced new BioShock game.” The game was given the codename “Parkside”.
Apparently the team working on it is still pretty small right now, suggesting that we could be several years away from seeing it launch. One of their sources says, “The issue is that Parkside’s not ready for lots of people. They’re trying to be really smart about figuring out what the core thing is. They’re careful about not falling into the same problem every studio has, where they have too many people and nothing for them to do.”
If true, I can’t wait to play it one day soon.
