Last year it was confirmed that a new Angry Birds movie was in the works but we never heard anything about a release date. Well, now Sony and Rovio have recently confirmed that the movie is set for September 20th 2019. So fans will have a little over a year left before they can watch it.
The sequel will likely see the return of the original cast which includes Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Bill Hader, Danny McBride, and Peter Dinklage. It will be directed by Thurop Van Orman and co-directed by John Rice, while John Cohen will be returning to produce the movie.
The Angry Birds video game franchise hasn’t been very active these days, but it looks like there is still a lot of life in it. The first Angry Birds movie broke several records. Sony and Rovio also claimed that it made $352 million at the global box office and opened at number one back in 2016.
They hope that the sequel will be able to recreate the success that the first movie did, and maybe reinvigorate the franchise I’m sure. They would love to sell more toys and make more money on the games. We will see if this helps.
